Korean Language Summer Camp Junior Counselor
Concordia Language Villages (CLV) originally known as the International Language Villages, was established in 1961 by Dr. Gerhard Haukebo, a faculty member at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Dr. Haukebo envisioned an innovative language immersion program that combined cultural experiences with language learning, departing from traditional classroom methods. The inaugural program was a two-week German language camp held at a rented facility in Minnesota, which proved to be highly successful and set the foundation for future expansion.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, CLV operates under the sponsorship of Concordia College, a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The organization is led by Executive Director Mary Maus Kosir, who has been in position since 2020 and supported by a dedicated staff of approximately 1,300 members.
Over the years, CLV has grown to offer immersion programs in 15 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. These programs serve over 13,000 participants annually, ranging from youth to adults, hailing from all 50 U.S. states and more than 25 countries.
The mission of Concordia Language Villages is to inspire courageous global citizens by providing culturally authentic and immersive language experiences. Situated in the North Woods of Minnesota, the Villages feature architecturally accurate sites that reflect the cultures they represent, enhancing the immersive experience for participants.
In addition to summer camps, CLV offers year-round programs, including school-year weekend sessions and virtual learning opportunities, catering to a diverse audience seeking language and cultural education.
